While everything was black leather before, today’s jackets can look like anything. Many are thermal and hold in heat better than leather ever did, in fact. You’ll still find leather jackets around, of course, but you’ll also find jackets in other solid colours and many with logos and other designs on them. Clothing made by motorcycle companies like Harley Davidson is especially popular, and you’ll find many riders decked out in clothing that reflects their favourite manufacturers.
What’s interesting is that motorcycle fashion is actually moving into the mainstream fashion industry. While it’s not made out of the same protective material or as insulated, some big name fashion designers have created lines based on biker clothing. Designers like Chanel and Dior have created clothing that looks like what you’d see bikers wearing, although it’s made out of silk and other soft material, and it’s usually more expensive. There is some men’s clothing based on the biker style, but much of these fashion lines are aimed at women. Most people don’t think of women riders when they first think of people who ride motorcycles, but there are a number of them out there, and their style of clothing has caught on with non-riding women. Even some celebrities are stepping out in biker gear these days.
Whether it’s being influenced by fashion or influencing fashion, biker style is certainly unique. However, it’s also one area of fashion where protection and insulation is also important, so while shopping for looks, be sure to consider both of those factors as well.
