When you are riding your motorcycle during the winter, it can be difficult to stay warm. The main problem with winter riding is the bitterly cold wind that can come at you at very high speeds when you are on the bike. The best way to ensure you are doing everything possible to stay warm is to make sure the wind does not make contact with your skin at any point.
One of the most common problems occurs with riders who only have a three-quarter helmet because it allows wind onto your face. In order to prevent this you will want to get a full head cover to block the wind from your face, and you will probably also want to tuck it into your jacket top to make sure that the wind does not have any area where it can easily penetrate the barrier. This type of head gear is known as a balaclava, and they are relatively inexpensive. It is also a good idea to go ahead and get a face shield that will further prevent the wind.
Your riding gear should be padded and should have a good liner on the inside to provide you with much needed insulation if you are driving in these kinds of harsh conditions. While some of these suits can be rather expensive, you will want to make sure you get a quality outfit to help keep you warm. It is also a good idea to make sure that the ankles and wrists of the outfit are able to be tightly secured to keep the wind out. Then, you will want to secure a pair of insulated gloves and boots over these fittings.
Another important aspect of winter riding is your windshield. You will not want to attempt to drive in the harsh winter weather without a windshield, so if you do not have one for your bike you should go ahead and purchase one. However, once you have a windshield, it is also important that you are able to keep the rain and sleet from accumulating on the barrier so that you can safely operate the motorcycle in the wintry weather. This is not hard to do as you can purchase products that are designed to be wiped across the windshield that will waterproof the material so that the water will be less likely to stick to it.
Driving in the winter is not impossible, but it is important to make sure that you do everything possible to keep yourself and your bike safe in these conditions. That includes dressing warmly, protecting your face, and treating your windshield with a water retardant chemical.
